The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspect, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed, for allegedly adulterating, repackaging, and selling expired powdered milk to unsuspecting consumers in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Command, the suspect was apprehended on June 14, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m. by operatives attached to the Makera Police Division during a surveillance patrol based on credible intelligence.

Police authorities disclosed that ten bags of powdered milk suspected to be expired and unfit for human consumption were recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly mixed expired powdered milk with genuine stock before repackaging the adulterated product in counterfeit packaging materials for sale to members of the public.

The police said the suspect was fully aware of the compromised and potentially harmful nature of the products but proceeded with the illegal operation in an apparent attempt to deceive consumers.

The recovered products have been secured as exhibits, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 152 and 154 of the Penal Code Law 2021 (as amended), which prohibit the sale of noxious food or drinks, food adulteration, and the sale of products that do not correspond with their commercial description.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, warned traders, wholesalers, and business owners against engaging in activities that endanger public health and safety.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on the production, distribution, and sale of substandard or harmful goods. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious commercial activities to the nearest police station for swift action.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, on June 22, 2026.
