The Executive Vice President, Upstream, of NNPC Limited, Udy Ntia, has called on oil and gas operators to strengthen their resilience against political and market pressures affecting the global energy industry.

Ntia made the call on Tuesday during a strategic panel discussion titled “Upstream Portfolio Resilience: Designing for Political and Market Stress” at the ongoing 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

He said building resilience across the upstream sector requires the adoption of technology, stable production, effective workforce deployment and secure crude oil transportation routes to international markets.

According to him, NNPC Limited adopts a strategy that balances short-term revenue protection with long-term investments in facilities and infrastructure, including dedicated investments in standby capacity to minimise operational risks.

Ntia added that clear strategic direction, adequate resources, sound corporate governance and increased investment had contributed to improved performance at NNPC Limited.

He also noted that stable operating costs and improved regulatory frameworks had positioned Nigeria to strengthen its partnerships with international oil companies and independent producers.

The panel was moderated by Simon Flowers, Chairman and Chief Analyst at Wood Mackenzie.

Other panellists included Gordon Birrell, Executive Vice President, Upstream, at bp, and Hunter L. Hunt, Chief Executive Officer of Hunt Energy Holdings.

ADIPEC 2026 is holding in Abu Dhabi, UAE, bringing together stakeholders across the global energy industry.
