Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, says his administration has completed 1,070 road projects across Funtua Senatorial Zone, as he presented his government's development record ahead of a political campaign event in the area.

Radda made the disclosure on Wednesday during a visit to the District Head of Funtua, Alhaji Idris Sambo-Idris, ahead of the presentation of his administration's scorecard at the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign flag-off for the zone.

The governor said the projects formed part of his administration's Building Your Future agenda, which prioritises infrastructure, education and other development initiatives across Katsina State.

Reflecting on his administration's journey, Radda recalled that he first visited the area nearly four years ago to seek the support of residents, adding that both the government and the people had made commitments that were now being assessed through the progress recorded.

Among the key projects he highlighted were the establishment of a university in Funtua and the construction and rehabilitation of roads. He also acknowledged the contributions of traditional institutions, community leaders and residents, assuring them that his government would continue to pursue development within available resources.

The governor called on residents to pray for national unity and support President Bola Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. He appealed for support for the party's candidates contesting the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats.

However, the visit also brought a fresh infrastructure demand from the Funtua traditional institution.

Earlier, the district head commended the state government for its road projects and other development interventions, saying they had benefited Funtua and neighbouring communities. He nevertheless urged the government to construct a bypass connecting the outskirts of Funtua towards Kurami to divert heavy-duty vehicles travelling between Sokoto and Kano away from the town centre.

According to Sambo-Idris, the volume of heavy-duty traffic passing through Funtua puts considerable pressure on the town's road network. He argued that a bypass would help reduce congestion, ease the movement of residents and protect existing roads from further strain.

The request adds another major infrastructure issue to the development conversation in Funtua, even as the state government highlights its completed road projects and other interventions in the area.
