Two suspected terrorists arrested as troops foil planned attacks in Matazu, Kankara and Dan Musa

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 kidnapped victims and neutralised two terrorists, including a suspected kingpin, in separate operations across Katsina State.
The operations, conducted on September 14 and 15, 2026, also led to the arrest of two suspected terrorists in Dan Musa Local Government Area, according to the Joint Task Force.
The troops rescued the 10 victims after responding to reports of abductions from Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna communities in Funtua Local Government Area on September 14.
The task force said the troops launched a hot pursuit of the terrorists and engaged them in a gun battle before rescuing the victims.
The rescued persons comprised three males and seven females, including an infant. They were taken into military custody for further action.
In a separate operation on September 15, troops acting on credible intelligence about plans by terrorists to attack communities in Matazu and Kankara local government areas moved towards an identified terrorist hideout.
According to the task force, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, killing two of them, including Abbah Alhassan, described by the military as a known terrorist kingpin.
Other members of the group reportedly fled into the surrounding bush during the encounter.
During a subsequent search of the area, the troops recovered 10 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, a cutlass, camouflage clothing and Indian hemp, among other items.
Also on September 15, troops arrested two suspected terrorists in the Yantumaki general area of Dan Musa Local Government Area.
The task force said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects were allegedly associated with a terrorist kingpin identified as Mannori.
The suspects remain in military custody for further investigation.
The latest operations form part of the ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to rescue abducted persons, disrupt terrorist networks and prevent attacks on communities across the North-West.
The Joint Task Force urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
