“PDP Successfully Uploaded Its Candidates Within INEC’s Deadline” — Party Rejects Non-Submission Claims

The Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have strongly refuted claims that they failed to submit the names of their candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that all required nominations were uploaded within the commission’s stipulated deadline.

The rebuttals followed reports quoting an INEC National Commissioner, Haruna Mohammed, as saying that some political parties, including the LP and PDP, had not uploaded details of their candidates before the closure of the nomination portal.

Responding to the allegation, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, described the report as false and misleading, maintaining that the party completed the nomination process ahead of schedule.

According to him, the Labour Party successfully uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates before the July 14, 2026 deadline set by INEC.

“Our attention has been drawn to reports alleging that the Labour Party failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the expiration of the INEC deadline. This claim is entirely false and has no basis in fact,” Asogwa said.

He explained that the party completed the upload of its presidential ticket on July 10, four days before the portal closed, adding that the process was carried out without any hitch and in full compliance with INEC guidelines.

Asogwa also faulted the media report, accusing the publication of relying on information from an unnamed source without seeking clarification from the party.

He expressed confidence that the controversy would be resolved once INEC publishes the final list of validly nominated candidates, stressing that the Labour Party’s candidates would appear on the commission’s official records.

The LP spokesman urged party members and supporters to dismiss the report, arguing that it was aimed at creating confusion and undermining the party’s growing political influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party dismissed the allegation and insisted that it had fully complied with INEC’s nomination requirements.

In a statement, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungudo, described the report as inaccurate and misleading, stressing that the party submitted the names and particulars of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

Jungudo disclosed that the PDP completed the upload process at 11:50 a.m. on July 10, 2026, well before the deadline set by the electoral commission.

“The Peoples Democratic Party successfully uploaded the names and particulars of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the INEC nomination portal in full compliance with the commission’s requirements,” he said.

He further expressed disappointment that the report was published without independent verification from the party, despite the seriousness of the claim.

Both parties maintained that they met all legal and procedural requirements for candidate nomination and urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, insisting that the official records of INEC would ultimately confirm their compliance.
