The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has taken a significant step toward strengthening its workforce with the graduation of 35 personnel who completed various professional and technical training programmes under the agency’s staff scholarship initiative.

The development marks another milestone in KAROTA’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency, enhance professionalism and transform the agency into a modern traffic management institution driven by skilled and qualified personnel.

The Managing Director of KAROTA, Alhaji Faisal Mahmud-Kabir, disclosed this in Kano through a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the scholarship scheme was introduced as part of a strategic plan to equip staff with practical knowledge and specialised skills needed to meet the growing demands of road traffic management and public service delivery.

The beneficiaries completed courses in areas including motor mechanics, electrical mechanics, road traffic management and other disciplines considered critical to the agency’s operations.

Mahmud-Kabir described the programme as a key component of broader reforms aimed at building a highly competent workforce capable of delivering efficient and professional services across the state.

He said the agency was determined to move beyond outdated perceptions and establish a culture of excellence through continuous education and capacity development.

“Our goal is to build a workforce that possesses the knowledge, discipline and professional competence required to deliver effective traffic management services. We have made deliberate investments in human capital because we believe that a well-trained workforce is essential to achieving our mandate,” he said.

The KAROTA boss stressed that the agency would continue to support personnel who seek further education in fields related to its core responsibilities, noting that staff development remains a priority of the management.

He also assured the graduates that the qualifications they had acquired would be considered during future promotion exercises, encouraging them to remain committed to excellence and public service.

Commending the graduates for their perseverance and determination, Mahmud-Kabir urged them to translate their newly acquired knowledge into improved performance and greater productivity in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Administration and General Services, Alhaji Mahmud Haido, congratulated both the graduates and the agency, describing the initiative as a worthwhile investment in the future of the organisation.

Haido said KAROTA would work closely with the Office of the Kano State Head of Civil Service to ensure that the qualifications obtained by the officers receive official recognition and are reflected appropriately in their career progression.

He noted that empowering workers through education not only improves individual performance but also strengthens institutional capacity and public confidence in government agencies.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Yahaya Suleiman expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the KAROTA management for providing staff with the opportunity to advance their education and professional development.

Suleiman pledged that the graduates would put the knowledge and skills gained from the programme to productive use, assuring the agency that they would contribute more effectively to traffic management and the overall achievement of KAROTA’s objectives.

The graduation of the 35 personnel is widely seen as a reflection of KAROTA’s commitment to workforce development and its determination to build a more professional, efficient and service-oriented agency capable of meeting the transportation challenges of a rapidly growing Kano State.
